Happy Mother’s Day!

As I type this, I’m on video chat with my family while my mom unboxes her new MacBook Mother’s Day present. It made me think – how do you suppose we would have handled this lockdown without all of the technology at our disposal? How would the word have traveled and how long would it have taken? How would we stay in touch with each other? It’s still bit mind-boggling how quickly life as we knew it came to a halt, but it’s even more mind-boggling to think of how bad it could have been! Fortunately, we’re in the here and now and we’re going to be mostly okay!

This month:

  • Quarantine continues
  • Afterburn class interest list
  • Body weight exercises and TRX suspension trainer
  • Sean Connery and Freddy talk moustaches
  • #L1TFLife, YouTube, and social media

Quarantine Week 7 (or 8 depending on when you started counting)

May 10 and the restrictions still continue in many places, but seem to be easing up with some businesses being allowed to reopen. We’ve started an interest list for our outdoor interval training class “Afterburn.” We’re hoping we’ll be able to get back out there pretty soon! To see what the class is all about and join the list, click here. And be sure to wear your mask properly. πŸ˜‰

Bodyweight Exercises and the TRX Suspension Trainer

The results in our very non-scientific survey showed that several individuals were looking for body weight exercise suggestions and demonstrations which I’ll provide shortly on my YouTube channel.

In the meantime, if you’ve got the funds available, I’d highly recommend getting a TRX suspension trainer. It used to be about $100.00 on Amazon, but since COVID, it’s now at $130.00. I suspect it’s a supply vs. demand type of thing. TRX is a step up from strictly/only body weight workouts.

You can work your arms, chest, back, legs, abs… pretty much every major muscle group and then some! I use it in my private client personal training as a precursor to weight training because it helps my clients gain a much better sense of spatial awarenessΒ  and proprioception (the movement and positioning of a person’s body). This in turn helps them with balance, coordination, and agility.

And even at $130, it’s still very budget friendly, space friendly, versatile, and extremely portable as compared to purchasing SEVERAL pieces of equipment. TRX will always get two thumbs up from me πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½

To Shave or Not To Shave? That is the question…

Like probably the vast majority of people out there, I haven’t been able to get a haircut in almost 2 months. So, I figured, what the heck – why not let my facial hair grow out (what little I’m able to grow that is πŸ˜‚) And below are the results of this 5 week experiment. What do you think? Does it suit me? Or should I go back to clean-shaven? Or somewhere in between?

#L1TFLife and the Social Media

Last but not least, we created a hashtag specific to the Level One Training and Fitness community – #L1TFLife (or lowercase #l1tflife). If you get a workout in or a walk or eat healthy or something related to exercise or nutrition, include the hashtag #l1tflife and you’re set. You can also do a search of the #L1TFLife hashtag on any of the social media channels and you’ll find posts by other Level One peeps doing their things wherever they are! It’s a great way to stay connected and see what everyone else is doing πŸ™‚

On that note…

It seems the end of this ordeal is approaching, although the life we’ve grown used to will be quite different for the foreseeable future. Remember to not only take care of others, but to also take care of yourself. If you’re not taking care of yourself properly, your odds of health issues will continue to increase as time goes on. This will then place unnecessary burdens on the people you care about.

If health and fitness are new to you, take it one day at a time and one step at a time. Before you know it, you’ll have momentum going in your favor!

Stay safe, stay healthy, and be well!
